History of the Department

A brief look back into the past reveals that almost a generation of hard work and prayer has gone into the development of this department starting from the department’s very own pioneer Dr. Ida Bella Sophie Scudder, who is incidentally the niece of the Founder of CMC Vellore, Dr. Ida Scudder. Started at 1936, the department was headed by Dr. Ida Bella Sophie Scudder until 1951, when Dr. Donald Patterson took over.
